Personal Introduction:
Hello and welcome to my page!
My name is Janel and I would like to share a bit about me and why I created this eportfolio-firstly, I'd like to share that I am 28 years old, and I am a full time student and student athlete at Mt. San Antonio College, I work 2 part time jobs and currently hold an interning position as well and although I may be busy with so much at the moment I always try to make sure I find time for myself to spend with family, friends, or just a little time for just me.
Some of my favorite hobbies include swimming of course, spending quality time with the people I love, crafting, trying new Mexican food spots, and going to amusement parks; my favorite right now is Disneyland because I have been employed with the company since 2017 and I get to enjoy the privilege of free access to the parks which is so much fun!
I'd also like to add that I am currently in a phase in my life that I feel so confident in the person I am and where my future is headed, I've spent majority of my early to mid 20's trying to work on myself and grow as a person in every way possible which includes learning & developing myself emotionally, mentally, and personally-in every capacity. I am proud to say that I am at a phase in my life where I feel so proud of all the work I have done to get where I am today, no matter how long the journey takes, it is always so rewarding to see how far you've come in life and how much you have grown from life.
I look forward to see where my future goes but as for now I will continue to follow this rewarding path I am on for a better life for myself and an even brighter and rewarding future!
Professional Introduction:
I attend Mt. San Antonio College, I am currently taking classes towards obtaining a coaching certification. I just recently graduated with my Associates Degree in Arts in Kinesiology and Wellness during the Spring of 2023, it has been a long time coming and I am so proud of my accomplishments!
I came back to school 2020 a few weeks before Covid hit then lock-down, during that time it was an enormous challenge for me to transition online, I struggled like so many others but eventually I pulled through and began continuing my education, fast forward 2022 after 2 years of being online I decided to take in-person classes and join a sports team one last time at the age of 27. I was excited and nervous all at the same time, I joined Mt. SAC's swim team 2022-2023 year and it was one of the best decisions I have made-it was such a rewarding and growing experience for me in every way and being back in the pool just reminded me how much I love the sport of swimming. After researching other programs Mt. SAC offers, I stumbled across the coaching certification opportunity and just went for it since many of my classes for kinesiology aligned for the certification requirements needed.
Taking this course has been so rewarding and eye opening to me in regards to the world of coaching, I have a new appreciation for coaches and all the work that comes with being a coach; especially coaching young athletes and dealing with parents-it comes with many challenges but also helps guide one and build a stronger foundation for yourself. I appreciate all the opportunities I have been opened for me through the Mt. SAC aquatics programs as well as the coaches at Brea Aquatics who granted me the privilege of interning for the semester, thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way and I cannot wait to see where this journey of becoming a swim coach takes me but for now I am enjoying every opportunity I get to share my love and passion for swim with fellow colleagues and my athletes.
